Local Cancellations/Closures:
The Department of Education and school districts, in consultation with the New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association, are postponing all school and district-sponsored events involving students from different schools or the general public, until March 23.
CITY OF SAINT JOHN FACILITIES THAT HAVE BEEN CLOSED:
• City Hall, 15 Market Square
• Municipal Operations Building, 175 Rothesay Avenue
• Leisure Services, 171 Adelaide Street
• All Fire Stations
• All Saint John Water drinking and wastewater treatment facilities
• All City-operated arenas, including the Charles Gorman, Hilton Belyea, Peter Murray and Stewart Hurley
• All City-funded community centres, Carleton Community Centre, the Nick Nicolle Community Centre, the South End Community Centre, and the Millidgeville Community Centre and the Irving Oil Field House drop-in programs.
• All visitor eating areas in the Saint John City Market
• The Canada Games Aquatic Centre
• TD Station
• The Lord Beaverbrook Rink
• Saint John Energy
• Saint John Transit counter services and offices
EVENTS
- Saint John Wine Fair
- The Scooby Doo Live Show
- The 3rd annual Harm Reduction Symposium at the Saint John Regional Hospital
- The Saint John Theatre Company will reschedule its spring productions. Late March performances of Driving Miss Daisy will be moved to the BMO Studio Theatre. The Wolves scheduled for May 7-8 will now take place in early October. Mary Poppins scheduled for May 20-23 is postponed until mid-November.
- New Brunswick Museum is closed until at least March 30 including Market Square Exhibition Centre and Douglas Avenue Collections and Research Centre.
- Concert at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, scheduled for Sunday, has been postponed to a later date.
- Events hosted by the Red Cross have been cancelled.
- Imperial Theatre has postponed/cancelled upcoming events until and including March 28, 2020.
SPORTS AND RECREATION
- Saint John YMCA will temporally close all locations, including child care locations, as of 6pm on Monday March, 16.
- The Canada Games Aquatic Centre has cancelled weekend public swims and all fitness classes. Members still have access to the pool.
- The 2020 Canadian Masters Curling Championships, scheduled to take place at Riverside and Thistle St. Andrews clubs from March 28 to April 5, have been cancelled.
- The Kennebecasis Valley Basketball Association has suspended all practices and games indefinitely.
- The Canadian Masters Curling Championship in Rothesay and Saint John, scheduled to take place March 29 to April 5, has been cancelled.
- New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association (NBIAA) events.
- Hockey New Brunswick has cancelled all Hockey-Canada-sanctioned events for the remainder of the 2019-2020 season.
- GoodLife Fitness closed all gyms Canada wide including Fit4Less locations.
MALLS
- Starting Monday, March 16, McAllister Place hours of operation will be Monday-Friday 11am-7pm, Saturday 10am-6pm and Sunday Noon-5pm.
- McAllister Mall has suspended its wheelchair and stroller loan program, use of food trays

The Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health recommends that any non-essential mass gathering (150 or more people) be cancelled or postponed until they are able to better determine the risk to our population.
Precautions/Steps to Take:
- Avoiding shaking hands;
- Practicing proper hygiene;
- Avoiding common sleeping areas;
- Discouraging attendees from sharing food or drinks;
Increasing social distance between others (ideally to two metres) by:
- Broadcasting events
- Offering virtual participation
- Moving the venue from indoors to outdoors
- Eliminating self-serve buffet style eating at social or religious gatherings;
- Encouraging people who are ill or those with high-risk medical conditions not to attend gatherings;
- Supporting hand hygiene by providing hand sanitizer dispensers in prominent locations;
- Ensuring event organizers have arrangements in place to safely isolate and transport people who become ill onsite;
- Communicating clearly to attendees about the risks and directing them to our advice on reducing the spread of illness.”
