
Here’s how to apply for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB)

You can now apply for the $2000 a month CERB payment from the federal government. You do that through the CRA website CLICK HERE FOR THAT. They are staggering applications by your birth month: If you were born in January, February or March you can apply on Mondays, beginning April 6th. April, May, June apply on Tuesdays, beginning April 7th. July, August September on Wednesdays, starting April 8th. October, November, December on Thursdays, beginning April 9th. Anyone can apply on Fridays, Saturdays, & Sundays. You have to sign up for “My Account” at the Canada Revenue site, and if you get direct deposit you could have your money three days after your application is approved. If you’re getting paid by cheque it could be 10 days.
⚠️⚠️⚠️IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THE CERB
How to apply:
🖥 Online with a CRA My Account (you can set one up at https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/e-services/e-services-individuals/account-individuals.html.
📞 Over the phone via an automated phone service ➡️ 1-800-959-2019 (you will need to provide your postal code and SIN to verify your identity).
Application order:
🗓If you were born in January, February, or March, apply on April 6th.
🗓If you were born in April, May, or June, apply on April 7th.
🗓If you were born in July, August, or September, apply on April 8th
🗓If you were born in October, November, or December, apply on April 9th.
⚠️ This process will have no impact on payment distribution, and you will still be able to apply for the CERB after these dates.
Payments:
💵 If you are eligible for the CERB, you can expect a single payment of $2,000 (equal to $500 per week) for a 4-week period.
🗓 You can re-apply for the CERB for multiple 4-week periods, to a maximum of 16 weeks (4 periods).
📄 These benefits are taxable and you will need to report any payments received on next year’s tax filing. An information slip will be made available for the 2020 tax year in My Account under Tax Information Slips (T4 and more).
Payment timelines:
💵 If you are getting your payment by direct deposit, expect your payment within 3 business days from the day you submitted your application.
💵 If you are getting your payment by cheque, expect to get the cheque within 10 business days from the day you submitted your application.

*You can also call the Red Cross at 1-800-863-6582 (toll free) from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week to apply.
